Troubleshoot FileMaker

Start here to diagnose any FileMaker issues.

File Settings vs System Settings

The Problem

A common error message when opening FrameReady is a dialog that states:

“The date and time formats associated with “FrameReady” are different than the current system settings. What date and time formats would you like to use?”

The Solution

This message means that your computer is set to use a date format other than Month/Day/Year. If you are presented with this dialog, choose File’s settings. This message will continue to appear until you change the system settings in your computer.

To prevent this dialog from appearing each time you open FrameReady (all dates in FrameReady use the MM/DD/YYYY format), set your computer’s date format to MM/DD/YYYY by using the following instructions:

Mac OSX

  1. Click the Apple icon (top left corner on the menu bar) and choose System Preferences.

  2. Click the Language & Region icon.

  3. Click the Advanced… button.

  4. In the next screen, open the Dates tab.

  5. Change the format of the Short date to MM / DD, YYYY

  6. Click OK to close the windows.

Windows 10

  1. From the Start Menu, select Control Panel.

  2. Double-click Region and Language.
If this option is not visible, select Clock, Language and Region, then double-click Region and Language.

  3. Under the Formats tab, click Additional Settings.

  4. Select the Date tab.

  5. The format for the Short Date should be some form of Month, Day, Year. Select the appropriate option from the drop-down list.

  6. The Long Date format can be either: Month, Day, Year or Day, Month, Day, Year. Select the appropriate option from the drop-down list.

  7. Click OK.

  8. Click OK.

“FileMaker cannot share a file because FileMaker network sharing is turned off”

The Problem

When opening FrameReady, you see the message “FileMaker cannot share a file because FileMaker network sharing is turned off.”

The Solution

  1. Click OK to close the message.

  2. Login with the level4 account.

  3. On the Main Menu, click the Set Up Data button.

  4. Open the Network tab.

  5. Click the Set Files to Single-User button.

Tip: If you are networking FrameReady to use on multiple computers, then click Set Files to Multi-User instead.

  1. Click OK to return to the Main Menu.

Photos/images do not appear correctly

The Problem

After using an iPad or iPhone to snap a photo into FrameReady, the photo does not appear or, if it does appear, it is garbled.

The Solution

Apple has updated iOS devices to support “High Efficiency” photos in the HEIF format. However, this format cannot yet be read by all or any computer.

The solution is to disable “High Efficiency”:

  1. On the iOS device, open the “Settings” app

  2. Tap into the “Camera” settings

  3. Look for “Format” and change from “High Efficiency” to “Most Compatible”

FileMaker Pro will not open

The Problem

Filemaker Pro won’t open, despite clicking the icon. The task manager does not show it running and you cannot view or see FileMaker FMP menu bar at top of screen.

The Solution

On occasion, FileMaker Pro does not exit Windows nicely.

  1. Open the Windows Task Manager using Ctrl + Shift + Esc and then choose “More Details.”

  2. You will probably see it listed under “Background Processes” – right-click and choose End Task. Re-open as normal.

Auto Zoom

The Problem

You want to take advantage of higher screen resolutions so that FrameReady will attempt to fill your entire screen.

The Solution

Auto Zoom feature allows you to take advantage of higher screen resolutions so that the program will attempt to fill your entire screen.

How to:
  1. Go to the Main Menu.

  2. Click the Auto Zoom checkbox at the bottom of the screen.

In order for the zoom to work on a Windows platform, the Taskbar in the Control Panel must be set to NOT always be on top.

Networking:

When running the program on a network and you wish to have the auto zoom either default to On or Off. This procedure must be done on the Host/Server computer using a copy of FileMaker Pro.

“PDF could not be created on this disk”

The Problem

You receive the error message: “[filename].pdf could not be created on this disk. Use a different name, make more room on the disk, unlock it or use a different disk.”

The Solution

Create a folder in your Documents named “FrameReady Documents”. FrameReady is programmed to automatically create this folder if it does not exist.

“You cannot use this record”

The Problem

When trying to update or change something in FrameReady, you receive the error: “#-[username] is modifying this record. You cannot use this record until #-[username] is finished.”

The Solution

Multiple users are attempting to edit the same record. All but one user must leave the record.

Formula operators in FileMaker

The Problem

If you chose to use your own formulas for pricing moulding or matboard, then you will need to familiarize yourself with Operators, or formula calculation symbols used by FileMaker Pro.

The Solution

Consult the following chart of operators: See: Formula Operators
