Warning: Any customizations to your FrameReady software, which you have made (or had done for you), will not appear in the new version. Customizations are things like changes to layouts, adding fields, changing colours, adjusting printed documents (other than labels).
Old FrameReady - the version used on the server prior to the upgrade
New FrameReady - the version installed during the upgrade
The upgrade process could take several hours, during which time FrameReady will be unavailable for use. Technical support from Adatasol Inc. is available weekdays during business hours.
Please plan accordingly.
Use this checklist to help track your progress:

This step involves downloading the necessary files to the server computer.
Download the files appropriate for your platform, as emailed to you by Adatasol Inc.:
☐ FrameReady Updater file
☐ FileMaker Pro
☐ FileMaker Server
Do not install them yet.
This step involves obtaining information so that you can recreate your FileMaker Server environment using the new version.
On the server computer open the FileMaker Server Admin Console.

Click Database Server and open the Folders tab.
In addition to the default folder for the databases, make note of any additional database folders as well as their system path (your FrameReady files may be in a non-standard location).
FileMaker Server default database folder location:
Windows:
C:\Program Files\FileMaker\FileMaker Server\Data\Databases
macOS:
Macintosh HD/Library/FileMaker Server/Data/Databases/
Save the settings for your schedules and administrator groups.
Note your existing FileMaker Server settings, such as server name, email notifications, authentication, startup options.
This step involves turning off the FileMaker Server. Users will be unable to connect to FrameReady for the duration of the upgrade.
Open the FileMaker Server Admin Console.
On the Status page, click the blue "power" switch.
In the Stop Database Server dialog, change the delay time to 0 (minutes) and click OK.
The FileMaker Server stops serving all files and the button turns grey.
This step involves installing FileMaker Pro on the server. Later, this same step will need to be performed on all Guest computers.
Install by double-clicking on the downloaded file. Follow the on-screen steps.
Optionally, you may remove earlier versions of FileMaker Pro if you are certain you will not need them.
If you are currently running FileMaker Pro on the same machine, you must quit FileMaker Pro before installing FileMaker Server.
This step involves installing the new FrameReady; it will install into it's default location. Later, you will move it into the server's database folder.
Install by double-clicking on the downloaded file. Follow the on-screen steps.
The default install locations are:
Windows:
C:\SoftTouch Solutions\FrameReady ##
macOS:
Macintosh HD/Users/[Account name]/Applications/FrameReady ##
Before you move files, confirm that you are in the working FrameReady folder, as used by FileMaker Server (you confirmed this location in the Prepare for the Upgrade step). Do not uninstall FileMaker Server before moving these files.
This step involves locating your most-recent files and copying them into the old_data_files folder of the new FrameReady installation.
Open your old FrameReady folder (its location was determined earlier).
Select all files and copy.
Open the new FrameReady folder.
Windows:
C:\SoftTouch Solutions\FrameReady 11
macOS:
Macintosh HD/Users/[Account name]/Applications/FrameReady 11
Inside it, open the old_data_files folder.
Paste the files.
This step involves uninstalling FileMaker Server, before installing the new version. You cannot run two different version of FileMaker Server on the same machine.
Windows:
Open the Control Panel and choose Programs and Features.
Select FileMaker Server from the list and click Change.
When the Installation program starts, click Next.
Select Remove, then click Next and Remove.
Click OK to confirm you are aware that a reboot is required.
If a User Account Control alert appears, click Yes.
Your database files, script files, and plug-ins are not deleted.
Click Finish after uninstalling FileMaker Server, and then click Yes to restart the machine.
macOS:
Launch the uninstaller from the following location:
/Library/Application Support/FileMaker/FileMaker Server/FMS 15 Uninstaller.app
You may be prompted to provide the system's admin credentials.
Click Yes to confirm that you want to uninstall FileMaker Server. Some files and folders cannot be removed.
Click OK.
Restart the machine after uninstalling FileMaker Server.
This step involves using the new version of FrameReady to import your data.
Open the new FrameReady 11 from the Desktop Shortcut (Windows) or by navigating to Applications/FrameReady 11 and double-clicking FrameReady.fmp12 or Main Menu.fmp12 (Mac OS) and login using the level4 account and password.
In the menu bar, choose Perform > Upgrade to New Version.
Read over the brief instructions, and select the correct version you are upgrading from.
Click the Start Upgrade button.
When the records have finished importing, Exit the program.
You will receive an alert reminding you about the next step; click OK.
Open the FrameReady 11 folder.
Open the old_data_files folder.
Look for a file named Data05.fmp12, and copy it.
If your extensions are turned off, then you may see two files named Data05, they will have similar icons but the one we want has a dark purple bar at the bottom.
If you have customized your Labels, you can also copy the Labels.fmp12 file and paste it into the same folder as the Data05 file.
Navigate back into the FrameReady 11 folder.
Paste the file.
You may receive a warning message may display that a file of that name already exists and would you like to replace it. Choose Replace or Copy and Replace.
Close all windows.
This step involves installing the new FileMaker Server.
Install by double-clicking on the downloaded file. Follow the on-screen steps.
Consult Chapter 1 in the FMS 17 Getting Started PDF for further details.
During installation, you will be prompted to enter the User Name, Organization Name and License Key. You may find it easier to carefully copy and paste from this document.
This step involves setting up your new FileMaker Server to match your old server.
After installation, start the Deployment Assistant.
Consult Chapter 2 in the FMS 17 Getting Started PDF for further details.
Now that you have installed the new version of FileMaker Server and configured it, you must move the new FrameReady files into the Server's database folder.
Open the new FrameReady folder.
Windows:
C:\SoftTouch Solutions\FrameReady 11
macOS:
Macintosh HD/Users/[Account name]/Applications/FrameReady 11
Inside it, delete the old_data_files folder, the Documents folder, the Help folder. There should be no folders inside the new FrameReady folder.
Select all files and copy.
Navigate to the following folder:
Windows:
C:/Program Files/FileMaker/FileMaker Server/Data/Databases
macOS:
Macintosh HD/Library/FileMaker Server/Data/Databases
Paste the files.
This step involves starting up the new server so that it can serve FrameReady.
Open the FileMaker Server Admin Console.

On the Status page, click the greyed-out "power" switch.
In a few moments, the button turns blue.
On the Activity page, select the FrameReady folder, click the folder icon and choose Open All.
Exit the Server Admin Console.
Re-open FrameReady on your computers.
