Digital Images

Overview

Having a digital image of a moulding profile or a piece of consignment art can be invaluable as a reference. Images can be stored in many different files in FrameReady.

You can import images of:

Images can be imported from any digital file or catalog.

Photos can be added from an iOS Device. See: iPhone and iPad Apps

Caution: FileMaker Inc has deprecated the "Store only a reference to the file" feature. This means it may be removed from future versions of FileMaker Pro.

Choose Store only as Reference to the file option. This checkbox is available when choosing Insert Picture and it saves  a link to the photo instead of saving the actual photo in the database. This helps keep the database files lean. Alternatively, avoid importing large image files and/or resize before importing.

Price Codes – Moulding Group

Many moulding companies have web sites where you may capture catalog profile images. Having them in your FrameReady program allows the cutter in the back room to double check the selection of a moulding on a certain work order.

You may wish to reference an obscure component item, such as comp corners or security hangers, with a digital photo.

Important Note on Importing Images

How do I make sure I don’t lose my images when I move from my laptop computer to my desktop?

Images will be lost if the source is moved. You can store the entire image in FrameReady but this will greatly enlarge the size of your files.

When importing an image:

  1. Check the box Store only a reference to the file.

This continues to show the image in FrameReady but actually keeps the file where it is located.

  2. Create a folder on your root directory (C: drive). Entitle the folder “Images“.
Put all of your images in this folder. This way if you move your FrameReady program and the Images folder to another computer, the images will transfer over as well.

Caution: FileMaker Inc has deprecated the "Store only a reference to the file" feature. This means it may be removed from future versions of FileMaker Pro.
