These steps assist you in performing a Ping Test for Windows and Mac.
The Ping Test confirms whether the Guest computer can access the Host computer over your network.
Ping Test using Windows 10
- Press the Windows key + R.
The Run dialog window appears. - Type cmd into the Run dialog and click OK.
A system window opens. - Type ping <host ip> (where <host ip> is your Host’s IP Address)
For example, ping 192.168.1.100 - If the test is successful, then you will see a number of lines all stating Reply from <host ip>.
- If the test is not successful, then you will see a number of lines stating Request timed out.
Important: If the ping test was not successful, then this indicates a hardware issue with the network or the computers on the network.
Contact your network administrator.
Ping Test using Mac OS X
- On your keyboard, press Command and Space.
Spotlight Search opens. - Begin typing the word network utility.
Spotlight auto-completes the word. - Press Return.
The Network Utility opens. - Select the Ping tab.
- Type the Host IP Address into the box provided.
- Click Ping.
- If the test is successful you will see a number of lines all stating: 64 bytes from <host ip> (where <host ip> is your Host’s IP Address).
- If the test is not successful you will see a number of lines stating No route to host.
Important: If the ping test was not successful, then this indicates a hardware issue with the network or the computers on the network.
Contact your network administrator.
The Ping Test is Successful
The following steps only apply if the above Ping Test was successful.
FileMaker 14
- Open FileMaker Pro 14 on the Guest and confirm that the version matches that of the Host computer.
- In the menu bar, choose File > Open Remote.
The Launch Center window appears. - Click the Hosts tab and, from the left panel, select the name of your Host computer.
A list of FrameReady files appears. If not, skip to Step 5. - Double-click MainMenu to open FrameReady.
- If Hosts are listed but no files appear, then Check Firewall Settings.
- If no Hosts are listed, then deselect the Star icon to show all files.
- If you still see no files, then click the + icon at the bottom left of the Launch Center window.
The Add Favorite Host window appears. - Enter the IP address of the Host computer in the Host’s Internet Address field.
- Give it a name and click Save.
- In the left pane, single click the new favorite you just created. Then double-click MainMenu in the right pane.
If the above steps do not open FrameReady, then it is highly likely that a firewall issue exists on the Host computer.
