Network Troubleshooting

Step 4 when a Guest device is unable to connect to your FrameReady Host computer.

Check the Host Computer's Firewall Settings

Windows 10

  1. Press the Windows key + X.

    The Quick Access Menu appears.

  2. Click Control Panel.

    The Control Panel appears.

  3. Click the Windows Firewall icon.

  4. Click Allow an app or feature through windows firewall.

    If this is not available, then your antivirus software may be preventing the changes. Consult the documentation provided by your antivirus software.

  5. Click Change settings.

  6. Click the Allow another app… button.

    In Windows 7 the button may read: Allow another program…

  7. Click the Browse button and locate the proper Filemaker Pro.exe file.

    Typically FileMaker is located in: C:\Program Files\FileMaker\FileMaker Pro ##

The 32 bit version of FileMaker Pro can be found in:
C:\Program Files (x86)\FileMaker\FileMaker Pro ##

  1. Select the File Maker Pro.exe file and click Add.

  2. Verify that the Private and Public checkboxes are ticked.

  3. Click OK.

  4. Click Advanced settings.

  5. Choose Inbound rules.

    • In the menu bar choose Action > New Rule…

      The New Inbound Rule Wizard window appears.

    • In the wizard, choose Port. Click Next.

    • Choose TCP and add a specific local port of  5003 . Click Next.

    • Choose Allow the connection. Click Next.

    • Check Domain, Private and Public. Click Next.

    • Name the rule FMP and click Finish.

  6. Next, choose Outbound rules

    • In the menu bar choose Action > New Rule…

      The New Outbound Rule Wizard window appears.

    • In the wizard, choose Port. Click Next.

    • Choose TCP and add a specific local port of  5003 . Click Next.

    • Choose Allow the connection. Click Next.

    • Check Domain, Private and Public. Click Next.

    • Name the rule FMP and click Finish.

Mac OSX

By default, the OSX firewall is disabled.

Summary

  1. On the Guest computer, open FileMaker Pro.

  2. Open the Hosts tab. The Host computer should be listed; click it and then chose Main Menu.

Important
If the Guest computer is still unable to open FrameReady from your Host computer then a hardware firewall in your router may be active; please consult your router's operating manual to open TCP port  5003 .
